THE PAST

  • Techniques for moving on from the past
  • 6 parts, control your own pace
  • For mobile, tablet or computer
  • Developed by a doctor/psychiatrist

This tool is for people who experience that the past influences the present, in a way that makes it difficult to move forward. It can be early experiences (something that happened or did not happen), or current life situations (illness, disability, breakup, etc.). Particular focus is placed on the role of victim, injustice, loss, grief, shame, etc. The past is over, and it is too late to do anything about it. An important question is: "How do we want what has happened to affect us today?".

The author is Ingvard Wilhelmsen, known as the hypochondriac doctor and based on his experience with patient meetings throughout his long career.

Who is it suitable for?

This tool is suitable for those of you who have difficult events in the past that are affecting your life in the present. You will learn more about processing, and about useful attitudes to have towards the past.

What does the coping tool contain?

The tool helps you process painful experiences and create a more balanced relationship with the past. It consists of six parts:

  1. Introduction
You will learn how trauma and life experiences can influence thoughts, feelings and patterns of action – and how a new attitude towards the past can create space for growth and healing. You will reflect on life projects and what you want to focus on in the future.
  2. Attitudes
You explore your own attitudes towards guilt, shame and self-image, and learn to distinguish between what you are actually responsible for and what you can let go of. You gain insight into how rumination and worry can be replaced with more realistic goals and self-awareness.
  3. Processing
You will receive support to put words to and process painful experiences – at your own pace. You will learn why it is important to know and express emotions, and what is needed to do this in a safe way.
  4. Self-image
You will learn to understand the difference between self-image and self-confidence, and how criticism, comparison and past experiences can affect how you see yourself. The exercises help you build a more realistic and warm view of yourself.
  5. Pitfalls
You will reflect on the role of victim, and how acceptance and confrontation can help to release stuck patterns. You will learn how to face painful issues with greater clarity and courage – without getting caught up in bitterness.
  6. Decision
You look forward and work on themes such as forgiveness, change and letting go. You learn to take responsibility for how you relate to the past – and how this work can also become a resource in meeting others.

It was very clear and easy to understand. Nice variation between reading, seeing/hearing and doing.»

«"An understanding of how the "whole" is connected. A tool for help. I think it all worked very well, and I am very happy with the knowledge I have gained from it. The course gives me room to reflect on the "complex" that I have not previously done. Now it is beginning and I am well on my way in the right direction. Many thanks for the great help and a tool for the rest of my life!!!"«
